Well, I have decided to MERGE my two blogs!  It just makes so much sense to me now and I wonder why I hadn’t thought of it from the get go…but in an effort to give my blogging a little bit more structure, I have decided to move the GO GREEN blog to a new role as a FEATURE within my Room Service blog.

The RS blog is a “lifestyle” blog for people, like me, who love good design, in all forms, and are in the pursuit of a life that seeks out inspiration wherever and however it can.  And very often seeking out ways of doing so with a consideration towards protecting our earth.

GO GREEN will be featured every MONDAY.  The first GO GREEN MONDAY will be this upcoming Monday, September 15th.

Thank you for supporting and reading go green and I hope to see you and receive your comments over at Room Service blog.

JAPAN design community thinking GREEN

well, my new favorite website yielded this look at the Japanese Design Communities’ attempt to ‘green up’ their packaging…I have a feeling the balloon-filled tofu (below) would be slow to actually making it onto American store shelves, but I think it brilliantly resourceful!
The following was taken from pingmag.
Tofu packed into balloons, by Kamakura-komachi?! Surprisingly a great example for reduced packaging: Its elastic material is extensively stretched, and when pierced with a toothpick, the balloon bursts and only a tiny bit remains. How amazing! REDUCE with more flexibility! The same packaging concept is also applied to a pudding – to be seen here.

world mapper

Thank you to my friend Stephanie over at even cleveland for sending me a link to this interesting site this morning.  I ended up getting caught up in it for quite awhile….check it out!

The above map represents Carbon Emissions for the year 2000.  It is interesting though to check out the map for the year 1980 and note the differences:

The maps cover 200 territories, mainly United Nation Member States plus a few others to include at least 99.95% of the world’s population.  The maps presented are equal area cartograms, otherwise known as density-equalising maps. The cartogram re-sizes each territory according to the variable being mapped…In this case CARBON EMISSIONS…so the areas ’swell’ or ‘deflate’ relative to their role in the variable.  You can see the inflated versions of India (orange) and China (green) in the top (2000) map versus the bottom (1980) map.
