With the continuing saga of the whether or not to demolish the Ameritrust or Cleveland Trust Tower building in downtown I have Marcel Breuer on my mind a lot these days.  For the record, I am very much in favor of leaving this building in tact…for one, demolishing this building, one of our very few skyscrapers, would in fact, impact Cleveland’s skyline…but TWO, Clevelander’s are always whining about how we are not New York and not big and fancy and all that then they cry to demolish a building designed by a world-class, legendary designer, and one of the fathers of modern architecture!!!  At some point in time, every architectural style will be more or less in vogue…its the cycle of design…but we cannot go tearing everything down soon as it becomes a bit dated looking…it is historically significant and the only skyscraper built by Breuer….anywhere….in…THE WORLD!!!!!!!

That said, what I most appreciate about Breuer however is his furniture designs.  He is responsible for many amazing pieces, two favorites being the Wassily Chair and the Cesca arm chairs, the latter of which I recently acquired  for my store, two ORIGINAL ITALIAN MADE in near perfect shape:

I am selling them for $299 a piece.  It is when I come across amazing finds like this, that I wish we had a bigger home,  however a home big enough to house all the furniture I stumble across in my job would be a bit obscene…so once again, i put it out to you Clevelanders, as I am not shipping furniture at this time, to enjoy these things for me!  I can envision these two chairs in many different design scenarios…at the store i have them nestled up to a primitive distressed white and pink pedestal table and i think it looks sumptuous! but the two with a small side table in between could make a nice clean statement in a living room as well.

and, of course, buying vintage is buying GREEN.
