Just say NO to junk mail
August 21st, 2008
Today I signed up for ProQuo.com an online service that allows you to put a stop to credit card offers, junk mail and unwanted catalogs. Its like a dream come true, if only it also had a STOP BILLS feature than it would truly be flawless.
It is super easy and user friendly. Just register (standard website registration) and then manage your catalogs (you can actually sign up for ones you don’t get but want and cancel any that you do not want)…admittedly, some catalogs, like DWR and West ELM are like candy for me and I am not prepared to go so green that I quit magazines and inspiring catalogs altogether, but others, that I NEVER order from and don’t remember ever signing up for like, J.Crew and Victorias Secret got the ax this morning…It’s not to say I got some beef with either of those brands, its just that are they inspiring me more than the web which is paper-free? NO. In those cases, they are not. So away they go and thus my footprint just got a tiny bit smaller.
Credit Card offers? NO MORE!!! THis one really excites me. I mean, the allure of plastic is tempting, but ultimately evil and while I do have them and use them when necessary, I certainly do not need nor want anymore, so the daily offers are terrificly wasteful, and the constant barrage of them makes me feel doubly bad, about my lack of cash and all the paper waste. So this is a very exciting day. This one feature takes just a little bit longer than the others as you have to download a form for each credit reporting company and print it out so that you can send them a hard copy of your signature. (total time, like 7 minutes)
Miraculously neither at home nor the store do I seem to get to much actual junk mail like penny savers and the like, but if I did, today I could have admonished them forever.
