got to start somewhere.
May 7th, 2008its true. with anything one wants to do in life, you gotta start somewhere. very rarely do i set out to do something i have never done before and go instantly pro! ( i am not sure why i chose the word “rarely” as opposed to “never”, which certainly would have been more accurate, but i digress).
i have never been able to say that i have had a ‘green thumb’, no. mine is more like..gangrene. BUT, as i have said, you gotta start somewhere, so i bought an herb growing ‘kit’. contents: container, seeds for parsley, basil & chives, soil and instructions.
initially, as is typical with me, i skimmed the instructions rather than reading them through all the way before taking any action. As a result there was a minor snafu in that the seeds kind of got jumbled around as opposed to planting them in 3 separate sections of the container, but in the end i don’t think it was that bad. I was pretty nervous at first, i mean, having had no previous experience there were so many questions! am i watering enough? too much? is there enough sunlight? does it really help to talk to them?
boy what a relief it was when the first little hint of green emerged from the soil. i instantly ran next door to my bff’s tim & scott at duoHome to show them! (they feigned interest and acted like doting uncles!!!) . since that day they have seemingly flourished (THEY being the herbs not the uncles!). and i am proud of their progress to date, but am not really sure where to go from here, i mean do i separate them now that they have grown to toddlers? do they look normal? how exactly do i know what to prune? There are no shortage of questions still, but at least now i know, i CAN do this. I CAN grow something….baby steps.
