it really is a “green city on a blue lake” !!
July 26th, 2008
When I used to live out west and fly home for vacations or holidays, I always noticed how much GREENER the view coming into Cleveland was over (obviously) the view coming into LA, that was really more of a brownish color i would say. I do not suspect that one is ‘better’ than the other (yes i really do) but having grown up around the green ( the green of course, being the lush trees and forests), i had certainly had an affinity for it over the brownish( the “brown” being the desert & mountains mostly)- In fact as a child and thru most of my life, my two most favorite colors were blue and green….
And nowadays Cleveland desires to be recognized as the “green city on a blue lake” ….well, if this satellite image conveys anything at to me, it is kinda that it does, in fact, appear to be a green city on..well…a blue lake (at least from space anyway).
So recently EcoCity Cleveland, the nonprofit organization that created this GreenCityBlueLake website, announced in July 2007 plans to merge with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. GreenCityBlueLake and EcoCity’s other work will continue as part of a new sustainability center, the GreenCityBlueLake Institute, at the Musuem.
Below is something I found about helping the city truly become a green city on a blue lake, if you go to their website you can read all about the projects throughout the city, share your opinion, or find out how you can help…

Planning and development projects shaping the region
Here is the information you need to understand and participate in the major planning processes going on in Northeast Ohio. The projects listed below are shaping the region — and for each we will be assembling descriptions, documents, schedules for decisions, and other information on how citizens can get involved.
We need lots of help to track these projects. You can submit information by commenting on existing pages or by emailing the editors. You can even become a moderator and assume greater responsibility for keeping coverage up to date.
Want to see many of the projects in Cleveland? Watch the Greater Cleveland Partnership’s video that uses Google Earth images and computer animation to depict the infrastructure improvements and real estate development projects that are changing the face of the city.
